Can you tell us a little bit about OnyxPoint Global Management’s history on the North American continent?
We are an alternative asset manager focused exclusively on the North American oil, gas, power and oilfield logistics sectors. Over the last two decades, our investment team has successfully deployed capital into businesses operating across virtually every major North American unconventional oil and gas play. We evaluate a large number of deals each year and look for situations where we can partner with world-class management teams to effectuate transformational change in the businesses we invest. Our objective is to use our flexible capital base along with our relationships to help good businesses grow into industry-leading enterprises.
Where do you see the opportunities for growth within the industry in the next 5 years and how are you positioned to support this?
The transition to shale production from conventional sources has changed the way the industry consumes capital. Where historically, upstream success has been tied to exploration and discoveries, today the shale business is much more capital intensive and process intensive. This means that differentiation has to come form operational efficiency, cost control and capital structure flexibility. As we look to the future, financial innovation should invariably play a greater role in the industry to meet the needs of Shale 2.0.
Our flexible investment model allows us to invest across the entire capital structure of a business, not just the equity. For our management team partners and portfolio companies, this means that we can provide a range of innovative financial solutions to solve specific seller requirements in a given transaction. We try to position ourselves to move quickly to provide capital for growth, acquisitions or deleveraging when other traditional capital providers are often on the sidelines. This also allows us to remain active across different market cycles and to support businesses in rising and falling commodity price environments.
