Marathon Oil's reinvention focused on upstream exploration and production
Alexandra Herger, Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO) vice president for global exploration says since the company split two years ago it has reinvented itself from being a "relatively small major integrated company with downstream refineries to being purely focussed on upstream exploration and production."
Herger says the key driver of the business is the 'unconventionals' primarily onshore.
Production is over 100,000 barrels a day from 'essentially nothing' two years ago.
Africa is a big focus for the company which is negotiating a production sharing contract in Gabon and eyeing potential in Africa's rift basins including Uganda and Sudan.
