Senior Managing Director and Head, Energy, HOPU Investments
Mr. Ding has over 26 years of industry experience and track record of establishing and managing energy businesses. Mr. Ding joined HOPU Investments in 2012 as Senior Managing Director and Head of Energy, and is responsible for overseeing all energy-related investment activities. Mr. Ding currently serves as a Director of New Age (African Global Energy) Limited, a UK-based independent E&P company focused on sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, and Schlumberger CoPower Oilfield Services Limited, a China joint-venture between Schlumberger and CoPower Enterprise. He also is the Chairman of PetroBroad Copower Ltd, a private E&P company focused on China.
Mr. Ding was previously the General Manager and Chief Representative of Newfield Exploration Company in China, where he was responsible for establishing its China business. While under Mr. Ding’s leadership, Newfield was successful in building a portfolio of assets in China through both organic developments and acquisitions. Prior to the China assignment, Mr. Ding held numerous senior technical, commercial, and management positions with Newfield, Enron Energy Services, Enron Global E&P, EOG International, and Shell Oil Company.
Mr. Ding has a MBA from Loyola University (USA), MS in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University (USA), and BS in Electrical Engineering from China University of Petroleum. Mr. Ding is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, having served as the Chairman of SPE Northern China International Section, and is a member of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts, where he served as the President of New Orleans Chapter. Mr. Ding has also been a Guest Professor at China University of Petroleum.
