John Knight is executive vice president for global strategy and business development at Statoil; and sits on the GLTE leadership board with responsibility for overseeing the partnership's work on innovation.
John currently serves on Statoil's corporate executive committee (the equivalent of a US/UK unitary board) as executive vice president responsible for global strategy and business development. Since being appointed to the position in January 2011, he has overseen the realisation of several notable deals, including the USD 5 billion acquisition of Brigham Exploration in the US and the signing of a GBP 15 billion agreement with Centrica to supply natural gas to the UK and sell production rights to North Sea assets.
Previously, John was a member of Statoil’s international production and development board with responsibility for international business development and strategy from 2002 to 2010. During this time, Statoil experienced significant international expansion, entering into joint ventures in Algeria, Brazil, Canada and the United States. He also played a central role on the transition committee for the merger of Statoil and Norsk Hydro in 2007.
Prior to joining Statoil, John held various positions in both law and energy investment banking with Shell International Petroleum, Chase Manhattan Bank, UBS and Salomon Brothers.
